Objective: Prepare the student to studying the history of the Hellenistic world and the stages of development of monarchy regimes to democracy.

Content:  The course provides an introduction to the history of Greece from prehistoric times to the beginning of the era of the city-state and Macedonia, in order to prepare the student to enter the Hellenistic world. The course focuses on topics from the Greek world, such as the city-state system, oligarchy, tyranny, democracy, and the Peloponnesian wars. The course also deals with the impact of geographical factors on the history of Greek society and its civilization and the stages of development of Greek history, starting with the Cretan- Minoan civilization, then the transition to the era of the city-state, the development of regimes from monarchy to democracy and the internal conflict between Athens and Sparta until the fall of the city-state.
