A Register for Board Members in Africa

The Governance University and the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) are in the process of establishing a register for qualified board members in Africa.

The purpose of the register is, firstly, to contribute to Africa’s need for qualified board members who improve general corporate governance of a firm, reduce risk perception by investors and therefore impact positively on the firm’s access to investment capital.

Secondly, the register will help to match motivated and qualified African and Dutch potential board candidates with African companies in need of such board members. The register will therefore develop and maintain contacts with businesses and investors in Africa, and manage a database of qualified people who have the ambition to become board member in Africa.

The Boards and Governance Course 2012

One way of qualifying for registration is by participating in the Boards and Governance Course organized by The Governance University and the Royal Tropical Institute. The course aims to enhance participants' insights in overseeing investments in African corporate enterprises through a combination of knowledge transfer and the sharing of experiences. Participants will be provided with the tools to understand and improve internal governance structures of corporations.
