KIT Dossier Theatre and development

Last update: Wednesday 30 November 2011

'The first step to development is a change of attitude, both individual and collective - and in that order - from declared helplessness to empowerment. This is culture in action, and theatre is a cultural tool.' Alex Mavrocordatos in Tied up in a rope of sand. TFD: cultural action or development utility

The dossier Theatre and Development is about the use of theatre, including street theatre and puppet theatre, to disseminate and communicate information. The title Theatre and Development refers to theatre approaches known as Theatre for Development, participatory theatre, popular theatre, community theatre, legislative theatre, theatre in (health) education, educational theatre, and edutainment.
Many thanks go to Alex Mavrocordatos for his valuable assistance and contribution on participatory performance practices.
