The study attempted to explore access to medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) services, quality of service provision, and knowledge and attitudes of health care providers towards abortion issues. The percentage of rural facilities providing regular MTP services increased substantially.

Major barriers that women face in accessing fistula repair services is the cost of transport and a lack of information about treatment options and costs. This project uses a combination of mobile banking, public information, and free treatment in order to give women access to fistula repair.

This low cost informant surveillance system produced high, but plausible birth and death rates in a remote population in India. This method could be used to monitor trends in maternal mortality and to test the impact of interventions and can assist policy makers in making evidence-based decisions.
