“She Excels in Science: Afro-women Rule !”

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a Roundtable discussion within the framework of the program “She Excels in Science: Afro-women Rule!”, co-organized by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Information for Africa (BAIFA) and the Women’s Studies and Social Transformation (WSST) Program. It is worth mentioning that, BAIFA has launched this program since 8th of March 2018 in recognition of the essential role played by African women in the advancement of science and scientific research in Africa.

He roundtable discussion brings together : Professor Nagwa Abdel Meguid, Egyptian geneticist and laureate of the L’Oréal UNESCO Award for Women in Science for Africa and the Middle East; Professor Mona K. Marei, Professor of prosthetic Dentistry, founder and head of tissue engineering science and technology/laboratories-Alexandria University, Egypt; Dr. Sherien Elagroudy, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at Ain Shams University, Egypt, Next Einstein Forum fellow and L’Oréal UNESCO Fellow; Dr. Yasmine Aguib, Head of Life Sciences Research at the Aswan Heart Centre (Magdi Yacoub Foundation, Egypt) and Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London ; and Ms. Nahla Mokhtar, Corporate Communication Manager, L’Oréal Foundation.

In this context a number of Egypt-resident African students at the American University in Cairo and AUC and the African and Asian Affairs section in the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport, are invited to share their own success stories.

The Roundtable discussion will take place on the 21st of November, at 10:30am, in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center – Multipurpose Hall. Registration is required on the event date. Places are limited to prior registrations. Instant translation is available into Arabic, French and English.

"هي تتفوق في العلوم: نساء إفريقيا هن الفضليات !"

تنظم مكتبة الإسكندرية حلقة نقاشية في إطار برنامج "هي تتفوق في العلوم: نساء إفريقيا هن الفضليات !" ، بالتعاون مع وحدة خدمات المكتبة لإفريقيا BAIFA وبرنامج دراسات المرأة والتحول المجتمعي (WSST) وجدير بالذكر أن BAIFA قد أطلقت هذا البرنامج منذ 8 مارس 2018 و ذلك تقديرا للدور الرئيسي الذي تلعبه المرأة الأفريقية في النهوض بالعلوم والبحوث العلمية في أفريقيا.

وتضم الحلقة النقاشية كلٍ من: الأستاذة الدكتورة نجوى عبد المجيد ، أستاذة في علم الوراثة البشرية و الحائزة على جائزة لوريال-اليونسكو للمرأة في مجال العلوم على مستوى إفريقيا والشرق الأوسط، والأستاذة الدكتورة منى مرعي ، لأستاذ بقسم الاستعاضة الصناعية ومؤسس ورئيس معامل هندسة الأنسجة بكلية طب الأسنان جامعة الاسكندرية، مصر، الدكتورة شيرين العجرودي ، أستاذ مساعد في الهندسة البيئية بجامعة عين شمس ، والحاصلة على زمالة منتدى أينشتاين القادم وبرنامج لوريال اليونسكو من أجل المرأة في العلوم ؛ الدكتورة ياسمين عجيب رئيس قسم علوم الحياة بمؤسسة مجدي يعقوب لأمراض وأبحاث القلب في أسوان والحاصلة على الزمالة الفخرية من جامعة امبريال كوليدج بلندن ؛ والأستاذة نهلة مختار ، مديرة الاتصالات المؤسسية بمؤسسة لوريال.

وفي هذا السياق ، سيقوم عدد من الطلاب الأفارقة المقيمين في مصر والدارسين بالجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة و الأكاديمية العربية للعلوم والتكنولوجيا والنقل البحري بقسم الشؤون الأفريقية والآسيوية بالمشاركة في الفاعلية وذلك من خلال عرض قصص نجاحهم في مجال البحث العلمي.

تقام الحلقة النقاشية يوم الأربعاء الموافق 21 نوفمبر ، الساعة 10:30 صباحا في مركز المؤتمرات بمكتبة الإسكندرية - قاعة الأغراض المتعددة. وعلى الراغبين في المشاركة، التسجيل قبل بدء الندوة حيث أن الأماكن المحدودة والحضور بأسبقية التسجيل. الترجمة الفورية متاحة باللغة العربية والفرنسية والإنجليزية.
