Abstract:
The effect of providing solar lighting to the poorest of the poor in India is illustrated, using the case of a Dalit village near Tumkur in India. One widow with two children will now be able to spend 25% of her income on food, books, and other necessities instead of kerosene. A solarlamp, solarpanel, and battery cost almost 25 euro’s. Recipients of the lamp also receive a booklet explaining how to reduce CO2 emissions.
