Richard  Sweeney

University Librarian, New Jersey Institute of Technology


Biography:

Richard Sweeney is the University Librarian at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and also leads the Department of Instructional Technology and Media Services. Rich has been Vice Provost for Libraries and Information Services at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, Executive Director of the Public Library of Columbus and Franklin County in Ohio, Director of the Genesee County Library in Flint MI, Director of the Atlantic City Free Public Library in NJ, and Librarian at Central Junior HS in Atlantic City, NJ. Rich has served on the Board of Trustees of Thomas Edison State College (NJ), has taught at the high school, college, and graduate levels and has served as President of the Columbus Ohio Cable Commission. Rich is a frequent speaker and consultant. Rich Co-chaired the Shared Information Literacy Committee of VALE (Virtual Academic Library Committee of New Jersey) for six years. He has conducted over 40 Millennial generation panels in front of live audiences in over twenty states at various libraries, associations, colleges, universities, and companies. His work has been the twice story in the Chronicle of Higher Education (front page October 7, 2005) as well and a long feature article in this January’s (January 5, 2007) and an October 21, 2006 front page article in the Star Leger (Newark) and in many other publications. He has written a number of articles including “Reinventing Library Buildings and Services for the Millennial Generation.” Library Administration & Management, Fall 2005, Vol. 19 Issue 4, p165-175, 11p.
