Caroline  Stern

Department of Languages and Literature, Ferris State University


Biography:

Caroline Stern teaches technical and business communication at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan USA. Her research is focused on theory-based, practical instructional design for information literacy and she has published and presented nationally and internationally on subjects such as webpage usability, document design, and technical writing, and information literacy pedagogy. She was honored as a Michigan Teacher of the Year and received her university's Distinguished Teacher Award. Stern is a past member of the American Library Association's Committee on Accreditation; an invited delegate to UNESCO's World Meeting of Information Literacy Experts in Prague, Czech Republic; and has served on collegiate accreditation committees. Each year she spends part of her summers doing educational and medical mission work and has served in Ecuador, Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Kazakhstan. She has presented information literacy workshops in a global webinar for the Society of Technical Communication and in person in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, Scotland,Britain, and the United Arab Emirates.
