Biography:

Nermine Rifaat has more than 27 years of experience in The American University in Cairo Library. Nermine currently is the Manager in the Reference and Information Services department; part-time Literacy Instructor, Coordinator of Visitors’ Orientation and plays an active role in the organization, administration and day-to-day operations of the library’s new Learning Commons.  In this capacity, Nermine is responsible for training library users on how to use the library facilities to include searching electronic resources; training part-time and regular staff members on using US MARC for cataloging; giving library orientations to library users; giving special references sessions; preparing specialized bibliographies; compiling and presenting library statistics; working in collection development for the reference area (ordering and weeding print Arabic resources).  Nermine has worked as a consultant for libraries in and outside Egypt and initiated some libraries for the Egyptian Government and a Qatari University.
