Biography:
An internationally renowned scientist, Adel El-Beltagy specializes in improving the dry-area agriculture of developing countries. El-Beltagy directs the leading international research center devoted to the application of agricultural science to water-scarce areas. He is an expert on desertification and its prevention. He has served as Chairman of the International Desert Development Commission, Chairman of Egypt's National Board for Agricultural Research and Extension, and First Under Secretary of State for Land Reclamation with the Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt. An Egyptian citizen, he obtained his BS and MS degrees from Ain Shams University, Egypt, and his Ph.D. in stress physiology from the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
