   Biography
 
Jeffrey A. McNeely has been working internationally since 1968, with activities or missions to over 85 countries. He has written or edited over 40 books and has published over 500 scientific and popular articles; he serves on the editorial board of 12 journals. He is currently A.D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University; Chair of the IUCN Red List Committee; Chair of the Policy Committee of the Society for Conservation Biology, Member of the UNEP International Resources Panel, and Member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the International Risk Governance Council. He spent 7 years in Thailand, 2 years in Nepal, and 3 years in Indonesia working on a wide range of conservation issues. He was Secretary General of the 4th World Congress on Protected Areas (Caracas, Venezuela, 1992) and is a Member of the Order of the Golden Ark. He started working at IUCN in 1980 as Executive Officer of the Commission on National Parks and Protected Areas, later becoming Programmme Director, Deputy Director General, and then Chief Scientist until his retirement in 2009. He is an Honorary Life Member of The Nature Conservancy. He holds a degree in anthropology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). More recently, he was co-founder of Ecoagriculture Partners and its Founding President.
