   Biography
 
Prof. AbuZeid carries a BSc in Civil Engineering from Cairo University; and msc and PhD in Civil Engineering and Water Resources Management from Colorado State University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California, and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He was selected by Blue Dart among the 50 Most Impactful Leaders in Water Management (2016), and among the 50 Most Talented Water Management Leaders (2015). He has 30 years of experience being CEDARE Regional Water Director, North Africa Water M&E Regional Coordinator, North African Ministers Council on Water Technical Secretariat Officer in Charge, Arab Water Council Governing Board Member and Director of Technical Programs, Egyptian Water Partnership Secretary General, Global Water Partnership-East Africa (GWP-EA) Chairman, Global Water Partnership Chair of Regional Chairs, MCSD Vice-Chair, Member of the Arab League’s Council of Water Ministers’ Advisory Committee, Arab Water Security Strategy Advisory Team, Mediterranean Water Strategy Experts’ Group, Arab Shared Waters Convention Consultative Group, Sanitation & Water for All Steering Committee, and the High Level Technical Committee of the Transboundary Waters Sector of the Program for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), under the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Initiative. He was the Team Leader of the Nile Basin Decision Support System Conceptual Design, First and Second Arab State of the Water Reports, Nile Basin 2012 State of the Water Report, the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer 2012 State of the Water Report, the Alexandria 2030 Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) Strategic Plan, and the 2030 Egypt Wastewater Reuse Strategic Vision. He developed Egypt’s 2050 Water Resources Policy Options, and participated in the development of the Integrated Model for Egypt Water Resources Management, the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer Regional Strategy shared by Chad, Egypt, Libya and Sudan; and the 2030 San Diego Water Resources Plan. His other experiences include irrigation, groundwater management, non-renewable groundwater sustainability, water indicators, Green & Blue Water assessment, virtual water and water footprints, water-related environmental and climate change impacts, multi-criteria analysis, decision support systems, technical and legal aspects of transboundary water management, water demand management, optimal water use, water institutional reforms, and water-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
