Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt.  TWAS-ARO Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize 2013
Scientific and Technological Achievement

Deadline for nomination: 1 June 2013.

Knowing the importance of Science and Technology for the development of countries, the TWAS-ARO chose the theme “Scientific and Technological Achievement” for the Young Arab Scientist (YAS) Prize 2013.

The prize will be awarded to one young scientist from the Arab region who has accomplished an unusually notable research or technological effort. The prize will be awarded for a substantial revision or modification of a scientific/technological principle or procedure, or an important improvement to the value of a device, activity, program, or public service.

The value of the prize is USD 3,000.

Eligibility:

Applicant must:

  • Hold the nationality of an Arab country.
  • Be living and working in an Arab country.
  • Hold a PhD degree.
  • Have a proven track record in his/her field.
  • Be under 40 years of age by 1 January 2013.

Nominations will ONLY be accepted from:

  • Members of TWAS-ARO.
  • Science academies, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions from the Arab region.

Researchers Guidelines Training Program: Basic Skills
28-30 May 2013

Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) in collaboration with the Educational Section of the Information Services Department in the Library Sector supports young Fresh graduate researchers, preparing for Master’s degree by organizing the "Researchers Guidelines Training Program: Basic Skills".

The Basic Skills Program offers fundamental training for researchers in order to assist them in taking the first step in their scientific career. During the Basic Skills Workshop, researchers will learn how to use the latest tools and evidence-based approaches in the development of their research content.

In addition, they will know how to refer to previous scientific work to validate their experimental procedures and theses, and how to refer to the most reliable databases and e-resources to extract scientific data.

Program Schedule:

  • Module 1: Citation and Web 2.0 (Day 1)
  • Module 2: E-resources (Day 2)
  • Module 3: Advanced Internet Searching Skills  (Day 3)

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.SSC

This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: Public Health, Agriculture, Computer Engineering, and Environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

Get Involved!

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.

If you are a Professor of Agriculture, Computer Engineering, Health or Environmental Health, be part of the SSC and upload your lectures.
