Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. Science & Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region Conference

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries' Arab Regional Office (TWAS-ARO) will hold its 9th Annual Meeting, 29-30 December 2013, at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. On the occasion of its annual meeting, an inter-disciplinary forum on Science and Education will be held under the theme: Science & Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region.

This forum intends to bring together TWAS-ARO members and young affiliates, along with other distinguished speakers, to highlight the linkages between science, technology and society. This will be achieved through discussing issues related to quality, relevancy, and equity in the Arab countries’ education systems which is essential to provide a generation that can face future challenges.

As scientific research is an important tool for the social development of any country, TWAS-ARO continues its support for young Arab researchers by holding a poster session where they can showcase their researches related to the conference theme. TWAS-ARO will sponsor 10 outstanding young researchers, from different Arab countries, to present their projects/researches on Science & Technology Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab Region.

TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing its fourth BioVisionAlexandira.NXT to be organized in Alexandria in collaboration with the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries.

The Event will be held under the theme: “Research Ethics and Social Responsibility”. TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014 intends to explore research ethics in the developing world, and highlight its importance for society. It will also identify researchers’ responsibilities to overcome obstacles in developing countries using quality controlled and high standard research.

The Event will be held on 5 and 6 April 2014, where TWAS/BVA.NXT 2014 participants will be offered the opportunity to meet other young scientists and professionals from different parts of the world. The best 10 young scientists will have the opportunity to present their innovative ideas and their impact on the development of societies. Furthermore, the young scientists will be invited to participate in BioVisionAlexandria Conference.

Priority will be given to the best innovative research, and to research papers that meet the needs of the society.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing its Seventh International Biennial Conference, BioVisionAlexandria (BVA) 2014, 7–9 April 2014, in Alexandria, Egypt, under the theme “New Life Sciences: The Next Decade”.

The conference aim at taking a journey into the next decade exploring new scientific frontiers and conversing fundamental changes in life sciences, as well as next generation technologies, all needed to face our global hurdles and threats.

The conference focuses on three major themes: Health, Food and Agriculture, and Environment. It features a special exhibition titled - BioFair@BioVisionAlexandria and a Poster Session (http://www.bibalex.org/bva2014/Home/StaticPage.aspx?page=56&m=6) for young researchers and scientists.
