Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

TWAS and Trieste Science Prizes

TWAS and Trieste Science Prizes

The TWAS Prizes 2007 and the Trieste Science Prize 2007 is currently open and called for nominations.

Universities, Academies of Science, Research Councils and any other research centre from the South as well as from the North are invited to nominate qualified candidates for these prizes.

TWAS Prizes

TWAS prizes are aimed at recognizing and rewarding the scientific work carried out by individual scientists who live and work in developing countries.

Each year, prizes are given in eight different fields:

  • Agricultural Sciences
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth Sciences
  • Engineering Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Medical Sciences
  • Physics

The Trieste Science Prizes

The Trieste Science Prizes have also been established to give international recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by scientists from the developing countries.

Each year, it is given in two different fields. For 2007, the fields are:

  • Chemical Sciences
  • Agricultural Sciences

The deadline for receiving nominations in both prizes is 31 March 2007.

First MENANEE Conference on Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development

First MENANEE Conference on Environmental Economics and Sustainable Development
Alexandria, Egypt

The Middle East and North Africa Network for Environmental Economics (MENANEE) was established as a joint venture between the Beijer Institute of Resource Economics and the Library of Alexandria, and is now considered as a regional network that aims at strengthening the capacity of individuals and institutions in the region in the field of environmental and resources economics. It also intends to highlight to policy and decisions-makers the linkages between economic development and environmental changes.

The MENANEE is announcing its first conference on environmental economics and sustainable development to be held from 21 – 24 October 2007 at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

The event will be divided into three divisions which will be as follows:

  1. An open panel presentations session on topics of interests to the general public, ecologists and environmental economics.
  2. A cutting edge group of technical sessions that will be held between the resource persons and academics and decision makers.
  3. Presentations and discussions of the research papers that will accepted in the conference.

The themes of conference will include:

  • Economic valuation
  • Economics of natural resources
  • Sustainable development
  • Environmental accounting
  • Ecosystem services and biodiversity
  • Economic instruments and environmental policy
  • Water economics
  • Climate change
  • Trade and Environment

Submission of Abstracts
Participants are cordially invited to submit their abstracts of no more than 200 words in English. The link to upload your papers and abstracts will be announced shortly.
