Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The First BA Regional Workshop on the Epidemiology of Diabetes & Other Non-Communicable Diseases

"The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is pleased to announce The First BA Regional Workshop on the Epidemiology of Diabetes & Other Non-Communicable Diseases. This is a joint event between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) and the WHO Collaborating Centre in Pittsburgh and supported by the World Diabetes Foundation. . This workshop is part of a bigger project at the BA; < a href=http://www.bibalex.org/diabetessupercourse/> Diabetes Supercourse for the MENA Region.

The training course will be held from 5-13 January 2009 at the BA, Egypt. The course will discuss the different non-communicable diseases we face today and the various research tools and prevention strategies necessary to stand up against this alarming epidemic. We will be addressing general topics like basic biostatistics and epidemiology principles, and more specific ones like health inequities, obesity, complications of diabetes, smoking, and many more. Participants will have a morning didactic course then in the afternoon they will have the opportunity to work in smaller groups with their trainers. This workshop aims to assist young scientists, researchers and health care professionals with the tools that will in turn, aid them in their various fields to find innovative new strategies for the prevention and control of many non-communicable diseases.

TWAS-USM Fellowships in Malaysia

TWAS-USM Fellowships in Malaysia

Applications are now available for the newly launched TWAS-USM fellowship programme tenable in Malaysia.

The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and TWAS offer fellowships to young scientists from developing countries who wish to earn a PhD or pursue postdoctoral training in the natural sciences at departments, institutions and laboratories of USM.

Deadline for applications is 1 October 2008.

The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) is pleased to announce the acceptance of applications for the doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships.

The aim of this fellowship is to enable researchers and doctoral students of Southern members of the OIF, to receive training from 3 to 10 months in 22 Romanian Higher Education institutions, recognized for their excellence in different fields of education and research.

The Scientific Award for Francophone Young Researchers

The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) is calling for nominations for “The Francophone Award for young researchers”.

The prize will be awarded in recognition of scientific excellence and international achievements in the fields of:

  • Science and Medicine
  • Humanities and Social sciences

Eligible candidates should be:

  • less than 45 years old
  • PhD Holders
  • Accomplished a research activity after the thesis ranging between 4 to 10 years
  • Affiliated to a member institution of the AUF

Support for Francophone Scientific Conferences

Support for Francophone Scientific Conferences

The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) call for scientific support is open permanently. The deadline for filling an application is 3 months before any event.

This action aims at promoting science in French and supporting the academic and scientific networks which reinforce the cooperation and the solidarity of the Francophone universities and share the knowledge between academic institutions.

To maintain the previous action, the support of the AUF translates into support for scientific events focusing primarily to promote:

  • The participation of scientists from the South and East contributing to the event (French communication that will be published in the Proceedings of the event)
  • The edition and diffusion of the French acts (preferably on electronic medium, CD-ROM or Internet)
  • The promotion of the French language in the scientific multilingual events (translation, interpretation, etc...)
