To all Our Friends Around the World:18 Days that Shook the World

To all Our Friends Around the World:18 Days that Shook the World

Thank you for your many messages of solidarity and support throughout these last two weeks. And a salute to Egypt’s wonderful youth, who changed the course of history through peaceful demonstrations. The moral power of non-violence was never more ably deployed for the cause of more freedom, more justice and to lay the foundations of better tomorrows. By the moral force of their solidarity, and the nobility of their cause, they challenged all expectations and triumphed. The Egyptian Revolution of 25 January 2011 now belongs to the history books. It is a brilliant chapter in the unfolding story of the struggle for human dignity and the values of our common humanity.

Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina

Professor Miroslav Radman: Chat Conference on 23 February

Miroslav Radman, will give a video chat conference on Wednesday 23 February at noon GMT. He will speak about "Looking for lost innovations" and answer questions from visitors. He is Science adviser to the Prime Minister of Croatia and member of the French « Academie des Sciences ».Photo

Chat subject

- How to innovate? It has been rarely as difficult as today to get support for really innovative research. Creativity is not understood, neither is innovation: There are no more investments in surprises. But, surprise is the only source of real discoveries and innovations. "à la carte" research is sterile and so are the results. There is a way to change this: financing based on results obtained in the past 5 years- financing the researcher, not the research project.

- Research on life cycle and human health destiny. This is Miroslav Radman's present project. Everybody wants to know what their health future and their "old days" will be made of, and what can be done to overcome our biological destiny. What is the biological robustness of some species? Is this robustness "exportable" on other species, humans for example?
