The BA Manuscripts Center, affiliated with the Cultural Outreach Sector, is organizing its third scientific seminar titled “Al-Zahrawi: The Pioneer of Surgical Science”. This seminar will be held as part of a series of specialized seminars organized by the Manuscripts Center to shed light on the different facets of the history of medicine in the Islamic world. The seminar will include two lectures, the first of which will be delivered by Dr. Maher Abdelkader, Professor of Philosophy and the History of Science at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, where he will discuss the scientific method adopted by Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi, his status in the history of Arab medicine, and how his writings influenced the development of medicine in Europe. The second lecture will be delivered by Dr. Mohamed Rafik Khalil, Professor of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, where he will discuss the surgeries and surgical tools invented by Al-Zahrawi and how he developed many treatment methods that were used by Muslim physicians before his time.
