The BA is set to inaugurate “The Inhabitants” photo exhibition on Thursday, 8 June 2017 at 1:00 pm. The exhibition will include artworks by artists Jack Jonathan and Charlotta Sparre and will continue until Saturday, 24 June 2017.

Jack Johnathan’s family fled to Egypt, where he was born and raised, at the beginning of the 20th century. His interest in photography began to manifest itself after WWII. He also became aquatinted with famous photographer David Douglas Duncan, from whom he learned a lot of the secrets of photography. As he prepared to leave the land he called home for three decades, he decided to present a parting gift and created a photographic exhibition of the people of Egypt, portraying them as they had never been seen before. The “Visions of Egypt” exhibition was inaugurated at the Fulbright Foundation in 1952, earning critical acclaim and impressing audiences and critics.

His photography collection portrays the spirit of tolerance that is prevalent among the people of Egypt. It also highlights the pride they have in their present and their hopes for the future. He showed Egyptians as they appeared to him: peaceful and strong. The images are as crisp and engaging as they were fifty years ago.

Artist Charlotta Sparre, Ambassador of Sweden to Egypt, currently lives in Cairo. Through her photographs, she shares her love and passion for the MENA region. Most of her professional career has been devoted to the Arab world, including Libya, Egypt, and Syria. She has an interest in political history, humanitarian issues, and the challenges of contemporary development. She manages to explore the dynamics of life wherever she resides, and she sees cultural cooperation as a bridge for enhancing relations and for fostering tolerance and understanding between people in different parts of the world.

The exhibition will be held in the BACC East Exhibition Hall and will be open to the public on a daily basis from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, except for Fridays. On Saturdays and during public holidays, it will be open from 12:00 noon to 9:00 pm.
