BA Arts Center Organizes "Formulating a Unique Cinematic Language" Workshop by Director Islam Kamal

The BA Arts Center is hosting Director Islam Kamal for three days as part of a workshop for filmmakers who are at an early stage of their career. He will shed light on the idea of "cinematic language" and how it is a part of all elements of filmmaking. The workshop will be held from Monday, 7 May to Wednesday, 9 May 2018, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The workshop targets filmmakers in all specialties. Applicants must have directed or participated in at least one work, including documentary, narrative, experimental, musical, and other audiovisual works. The applicant must also be present throughout the workshop. The participation fee in the workshop is EGP 50. Accepted applicants will be notified by e-mail no later than Sunday, April 29, 2018.

To take part in the workshop, please fill out the application no later than Saturday, 21 April 2018.

Islam Kamal is a writer, photographer, director, and visual artist who studied oil painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduated in 2001. He has experience in experimental filmmaking and video art, and studied filmmaking through a creative training workshop at the Jesuit Cultural Center. His graduation film project was titled Icarus.

The films he directed have won numerous awards and have been screened at a large number of international film festivals. One of his most important works is the short film Noskha Shabeyya (A Local Copy), produced by the Plaza Project at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
