The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Translates the Resource Description and Access (RDA) Toolkit into Arabic

Posted on

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is pleased to announce the agreement held recently with the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) for translating the Resource Description and Access (RDA) Toolkit into Arabic, in cooperation with the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information.

As per this agreement, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is committed to updating and maintaining the Arabic RDA to be concurrent with the changes of the original RDA text. In addition, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is licensed to publish the Arabic digital version via the RDA Toolkit website. The agreement entails translating RDA Reference Material, contributing to the RDA Registry, in addition to publishing a one-year online tailored PDF version.

It is worth mentioning that Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the unified cataloguing standard to replace the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd Edition (AACR2). The RDA is developed in a collaborative process led by the RDA Steering Committee (RSC) to serve the digital world and the expanding number of metadata users.
