Egyptian Team in Intel ISEF 2013 Wins Two Grand Awards

The Egyptian team participating in Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2013 (Intel ISEF 2013), held from 11 to 17 May 2013 in the States and encompassing six projects from different governorates, has won two of the Grand Awards for the first time.
The project “New Screening Method for Early Pediatric Cancer Detection through Automated Handwriting Analysis” has won the Fourth Award in the Computer Science category, submitted by 3 Alexandrian students: Abdel-Rahman Mohamed Elsayed Abdel-Moneim, 17 years old, Hoda Sharawy Experimental Language School; Omar Khaled Obeya, 17 years old, Victory College; and Sara Samir Hagras, 18 years old, El-Raml Secondary School for Top Girls.
“Ships Rescue System” project, by Ahmed Atef Saber, 15 years old, Lycee la Liberte D'Alexandrie, has won the Fourth Award in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering category.
It is worth mentioning that more than 1600 project from about 70 countries have participated in Intel ISEF 2013 under different scientific categories such as Animal Sciences, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Energy and Transportation, Engineering: Electrical and Mechanical, Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine and Health, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy, and Plant Sciences.
Participation in Intel ISEF 2013, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, comes as the final stage of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF 2013), held from 9 to 11 March 2013.
The program, organized by the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) and targeting school students (14 to 18 years), aims at developing the skills of the participating students and trains them on how to conduct scientific research.
