The BA has published a special edition of the Memory of Egypt magazine in commemoration of the 210th anniversary of Muhammed Ali Pasha’s rise to power in Egypt in July 1805, which resulted in an important historical and political turn of events in the country.

The 180-page edition includes numerous informative articles and rare photos presented to the reader in a unique format. A large number of expert professors and young researchers took part in this edition, which also comprises some articles that were translated into Arabic that help form a clear image of Muhammed Ali’s character and era.

This special edition covers Muhammed Ali’s expansionistic project, his experience while governing the Levant, and an important aspect of his governing strategy in Egypt: his major reform projects, such as the Alexandria shipyard, the Bulaq Press, his work on the Saladin Citadel, and his concern with educational expeditions.

This edition also discusses the role played by major world powers in trying to rein in Muhammed Ali’s ambition for personal gain. The social aspects of his era are also explored, such as the emergence of horse-drawn carriages in Egypt, the naming and numbering of the streets of Cairo, and other topics.

The BA will also publish new copies of this special edition as the previous copies were sold out a few days after they were published.
