Opening of the Third Science Festivity at the BA

Alexandria— Under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, the Egyptian Ministry of Education and the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Third Science Festivity was inaugurated on Wednesday, 1 April and will go on until 3 April 2009.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria; Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, Minister of Education; Dr. Hani Helal, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Mr. Mahmoud Nazem, representative of the Minister of Petroleum; the Italian Consul in Alexandria; Members of the BA Board of Trustees; and representatives of the Cultural Institutes in Alexandria.

The Science Festivity is a huge public event that gives science a presence in the community and offers people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to question, discuss, and explore. The overarching theme of the Science Festivity 2009 is “Energy”, the most pressing challenge of the 21st century. The hub of the Science Festivity is the Science Village, which hosts a large diversity of hands-on and interactive exhibits, in addition to the always intriguing Super Science Show. A number of schools, universities, institutes, associations and cultural and research centers participated in the Festivity.

The Science Village will be at the BA Plaza on 1 and 2 April 2009 from 9:30 to 16:30 hrs; and at the Antoniadis Gardens on 3 April 2009 from 13:00 to 18:00 hrs. Visitors of the Science Village will experience the pleasure of lifelong learning by participating in the various activities offered. A concert by the Egyptian band “Masar Egbary” will also be organized on 2 April at the BA Plaza at 16:00.
