The Fourth Meeting of “The Memory of the Arab World” Project in Morocco

Alexandria—The fourth meeting of the “Memory of the Arab World” project will be held in the city of Fez, Morocco, from 17 to 19 July 2009. Representatives of all 22 Arab countries will attend, in addition to representatives of Arab and international entities.

This Meeting is co-organized by the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, Al Andalus Foundation, the Council of the Moroccan Community Living Abroad (CCME), the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), affiliated to the BA and supported by the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology which sponsors and finances the “Memory of the Arab World” project, implemented by CULTNAT.

A high profile Egyptian delegation will participate in the Meeting, including Dr. Fathi Saleh, Director of CULTNAT; Mrs. Eglal Bahgat, Senior Deputy Director of CULTNAT and Member of the Executive Committee of the “Memory of the Arab World” Project; Dr. Mohamed El-Sharkawy, Director of the Project; Rear Admiral Mr. Nader Hafez, Deputy Minister of Culture; Dr. Mohammed Saber Arab, Chairman of the Board of the National Library and Archives of Egypt, and Dr. Refat Hilal, Chairman of the Board Archives of Egypt.

“The Memory of the Arab World” is a regional Arab project to document Arab heritage and publish it online. It aims at preserving Arab heritage and introducing it to the younger generations, as well as building on what has already been achieved in that regard by different Arab and regional initiatives. Each Arab country would collect and document its tangible and intangible cultural heritage to be eventually published on the “The Memory of the Arab World” e-portal in Arabic and English.
