BA Launches New Educational Course on EdX

The BA has launched its second educational course on the edX portal for online education, which is affiliated to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harvard University. The four-week course is titled “The Heritage of Islamic Civilization”, and it is set to start on 20 June 2016.

This course presents a brief introduction to what Islamic civilization offered to world history in the fields of medicine, philosophy, and astronomy. It also presents a brief outline of the characteristics of Islamic architecture, as well as how Islamic civilization influenced world culture.

The first course launched by the BA, titled “Ancient Egyptian Civilization”, was offered last month and had 3,700  learners from 120 countries.

These programs and courses are a part of the of the BA-edX cooperation agreement, which states that the BA will provide the edX website with free educational materials and lectures in Arabic and English, making them available to students and researchers around the world through the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) system.

Around 60 international universities and institutions contribute to the edX website through providing educational lectures online, and almost 3 million students from around the world use edX as it offers over 300 educational courses. Some of the most prominent edX members include UC Berkeley, Boston University, Sorbonne, and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The program also has a large number of partners, including Tokyo Institute of Technology, Linux Foundation, and Birla Institute of Technology and Science.
