Announcing Winners of Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture

Alexandria— Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, announced on Wednesday, 28 October 2009, Al-Alaili Villa in Ikingy Marriot, Alexandria, the winner of Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture 2009. Dr. Mohamed Awad and Architect Gamal Samaan received the award: a certificate and a medal with the name of “Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture”.

The International Jury Committee also chose three other projects to receive certificates of appreciation: Wadi El Gemal National Park Visitors’ Center, Marsa Alam; Center of Architecture and Planning Studies, Cairo; and El-Gouna Resort, Red Sea.

The Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture was launched by the BA in collaboration with the Architecture Committee of the Egyptian Supreme Council for Culture in an aim to promote contemporary Egyptian architecture.

Serageldin, the Head of the Jury Committee, announced that the BA will issue a small book presenting all participating projects for their architectural and intellectual values. He added that the Committee also recommends the organization of similar awards in the future, in coordination with similar institutes, targeting Egyptian architecture.
