Donating Facsimiles of the Ruzbihan Qur’an and al-Burda Manuscript to the BA
Alexandria— On Wednesday, 27 January 2010, the BA celebrates the donation of facsimiles of the Ruzbihan Qur’an and al-Burda manuscript by the Iraqi Artist Niran M. Samarai.
The Celebration includes a Seminar featuring Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Youssef Zidan, Head of the BA Manuscript Center and Museum, Dr. Anas Attia El-Feky, Professor at the Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST), and Artist Niran M. Samarai. An Exhibition displaying the two facsimiles will also be inaugurated.
Imam Abū 'Abdallāh Muhammad ibn Sa'īd ul-Būsīrī was famous for his panegyric poems, in praise of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). His al-Burda is considered one of the most distinguished poem in that genre. The donated copy is a facsimile manuscript transcribed in the ninth hijri century. The original is preserved at the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin, Ireland.
The Ruzbihan Qur’an, also preserved at the Chester Beatty Library, was completed in the first half of the tenth hijri century (sixteenth century AD). The manuscript and its gilt decoration are the work of the famous scribe Ruzbihan Muhammed ibn Na'im Al- Tab'I.
