The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, organized the closing ceremony of the BA Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF) 2021, which covered Alexandria and several other governorates, after a qualification phase for a number of local fairs throughout Egypt. A total of 1048 projects were presented by 1718 students aged 14 – 18, of which 72 projects by 111 students were qualified.

The top five qualified projects will represent Egypt at the Regeneron ISEF 2021 in the United States, in a virtual event from 16 to 21 May 2021. Regeneron ISEF is the ultimate international competition in the field of science, at the pre-university level. It grants more than 1700 students around the world the opportunity to gather, share ideas, and showcase advanced scientific projects, in addition to competing for academic scholarships and scientific trips. It also allows students to meet and discuss their projects with international scientists and Nobel Prize laureates.

The closing ceremony of the BA Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF) was held remotely through the Planetarium Science Center Facebook page. The BA thanked students, parents, the jury and supervisors, and praised the constructive role of its successful partners: the Ministry of Education, the National Bank of Egypt, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The projects were evaluated by a host of academics and specialized scientists and engineers, together with a group of professional volunteers in the scientific field. The major awards were determined by an international evaluation system that assesses the creative abilities of students, their scientific thinking, as well as their capacity for precision and clarity.
