Within the framework of its community, cultural and enlightening role towards different segments of society, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, through its Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired, is organizing an International White Cane Safety Day celebration. It is held on Wednesday, 16 November 2022, at 10:00 am, in cooperation with Hanns Seidel Foundation and ATAA Charity Foundation.

The celebration aims at advocating the rights of the visually impaired in Egypt, and sheds light on the importance of the white cane and how to use it safely on a paved road. It also encourages the government and civil society to carry out their duties and roles in this respect.

This year's event features a presentation on the evolution of the white cane and its transformation into a smart one, and another on the Taha Hussein Library and the services it has provided for the blind and visually impaired during the twenty years since the opening of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Additionally, the celebration includes a puppet theater, a theatrical performance about famous blind people and their excellence in various fields, and a violin-playing segment delivered by a child from the Taha Hussein Library. It will be concluded with a dance performance presented by El-Noor School for Blind Girls.
