“Towards a Borderless Africa” Conference at the BA

Under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the BA Center of Francophone Activities (CAF) is organizing its annual conference to celebrate the International Francophonie Day, under the title: "Towards a Borderless Africa", on Wednesday and Thursday, 1 and 2 March 2023, in the BACC Small Theater.

The conference sheds light on the importance of the African continent and its natural and human resources through five aspects: history and geography, language and culture, environment and health, economy and industry, and education and training.

A host of Francophone ambassadors, consuls, experts, scientists and professionals in the aforementioned fields will participate in the conference, either in-person or via videoconferencing.

The conference is held in cooperation with Senghor University and the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, in addition to a number of sponsors, including TV5 Maghreb Orient, FAO, the Kemet Boutros Ghali Foundation, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, maison d’édition « Génial », the Institut français d'Egypte, the French Language and Literature Department at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, and the BA Arts Center.

On the first day of the conference, and before the commencement of the opening session, a French dictation competition will be held for preparatory and secondary school students, university students, and the general Francophone public, in collaboration with the French Language and Literature Department at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Center of Francophone Activities is organizing a concert by Bandetta band, in cooperation with a number of students from Senghor University, which will feature a medley of songs from various African countries, reflecting the continent’s different languages and dialects.

Prizes will be presented to the winners of the competition at the conference’s closing ceremony. In addition, a screening of the film Africa Paradis, by Beninese director Sylvestre Amoussou, will take place at the Institut français d'Egypte.
