The BA Witnesses the Third Session of Alexandria Dialogues Forum on Publishing Challenges

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized yesterday the third session of the Alexandria Dialogues Forum, under the title “Challenges of Publishing… Problems and Solutions.” The session was attended by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Dr. Ahmed Bahy El-Din, Chairman of the General Egyptian Book Organization; Mr. Said Abdu, President of the Egyptian Publishers Union; and Mr. Mohamed Rashad, President of the Arab Publishers Union, with the attendance of a group of directors of Egyptian publishing and distribution houses.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that books are the backbone of culture, pointing out that Egypt is always at the forefront, whether in the production of books or the number of publishers. He also added that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is about to launch a monthly printed and digital magazine entitled Alexandria Dialogues, stressing that the BA is open to all ideas without any restrictions on opinions.

Dr. Ahmed Bahey El-Din stressed the importance of this discussion, which seeks to reach implementable solutions with regard to the problems of publishing. In addition, Mr. Said Abdu explained that there is an interest in publishing mechanisms and challenges, and that there is a unified strategy for property rights, which has been adopted by the Egyptian state since September 2022.

The opening session was followed by a panel discussion moderated by writer and critic Ehab El-Mallah, with the participation of Ms. Amira Abul-Magd, Managing Director of Dar Al-Shorouk for Publishing and Distribution; Mr. Khaled El-Ameri, Chairman of the Publishing Committee at the Ministry of Culture; Mr. Sherif Bakr, Director General of Dar Al-Arabi for Publishing and Distribution; and Dr. Fatma El-Boudi, Director General of Dar Al-Ain for Publishing and Distribution.
