The BA Celebrates Naguib Mahfouz’s Birthday

Alexandria, 7 December 2005—Within the Art’s Center monthly program framework, A musical performance of Opera Miramar will be held – premiering at and in collaboration with the Egyptian Opera House (Sayed Darwish Theater). The Opera is based on a novel by renowned novelist, Naguib Mahfouz; lyrics by the Poet Sayed Hegab; conducted and composed by Maestro Sherif Mohieldin; directed by Mohamed Abu Elkhier. The Opera will be held on 6,8,9,10 December 2005, and at the Egyptian Opera House (ElGomhoreya Theater) from 13-15 December 2005.

Celebrating Naguib Mahfouz’s Birthday, the Art Center is organizing a movies week, entitled Naguib Mahfouz as a Cinema Writer, featuring Naguib Mahfouz’s novels on the cinema screen, including: Thaman El Horreya (The Price of Freedom), produced in 1965 (Sunday, 11 December 2005); Dalal El Masriya (Dalal, the Egyptian Lady), produced by Hassan El-Imam in 1970; and Al Ikhtiyar (The Choice), produced by Youssef Shahin (Tuesday, 13 December 2005).

A photo gallery of Toledo (photos of Toledo-Spain) will be displayed until 17 December as a part of the monthly program. The Life of Lieutenant General Ismail Pacha by the Greek Novelist, Rhea Galanaki will be introduced in a seminar on 12 December 2005. Concluding the program, a BA Arts School Concert ( Suzuki, Piano, Junior Orchestra, Amateur Orchestra) will be held on 22 December 2005.
