Bibliotheca Alexandrina held an exhibition that included a very special collection of the acquisitions of the Faculty of Fine Arts"" Museum, University of Alexandria. The exhibition was considered the first of its kind to be held in Egypt. It aimed at reviving the Alexandrian art and rediscovering the artistic acquisitions in Alexandria.

Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, invited the Faculty of Fine Arts"" Museum to hold its exhibition on the fringe lines of the Alexandria Biennale symposiums, which the library hosted in its premises. President of Alexandria University, Dr. Mohamed Nasr El Din Dumair welcomed the idea and offered his full cooperation.

The exhibition was held at the Library""s Conference Center, and was inaugurated by the Director of the Library, Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Minister of Culture, Mr. Farouk Hosni, and the Governor of Alexandria, General Mohamed Abdel Sallam El Mahgoub.

“All the credit for this collection goes to Artist Ahmed Othman - who lived in the late 1950""s in Alexandria”, said the Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts, Dr. Magdy Moussa. Artist Othman had a great aim of establishing a faculty for fine arts. Soon many artists joined him and worked faithfully and enthusiastically to achieve this objective. Silently and with unique sensitivity, Artist Othman began establishing a museum at the Faculty of Fine Arts. He started by collecting the works of great artists both Egyptians and foreigners either through donations or purchase. Soon the museum developed to hold the works of great artists which pay tribute to all those who contributed in establishing the museum and laying its foundations. The museum also includes unique sculptures by great Egyptians and foreigners. Thus, it has become a true treasure and a source of pride for Egyptians throughout its history. We will always remember Ahmed Othman""s foresight, the artist who established the Faculty of Fine Arts with keenness to leave this great collection for generations to come.
