The BA witnessed the inauguration of the three-day closing conference for the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt project, which began its activities two years ago with the support of the European Union. The conference began on 14 November and will conclude on 16 November 2015.

The conference was mainly held to review the outcome of the project that aimed to broaden the range of cultural projects in Egypt, encourage arts education, and emphasize the importance of utilizing arts and culture as strong elements in the developmental process.

The project’s objective is to map and collect information on the cultural industry operators in Egypt in order to identify cultural products, train service providers, and pursue means to develop them. The project encompassed all the different types and categories of cultural industries, especially the unutilized and unknown industries, in order to support them in becoming sources of national income.

The Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt project also involves a plan to develop Kom el-Dikka district by unearthing its tangible and intangible cultural resources. In addition, the project includes the North and South project through which a hundred Egyptian youths were trained in five creative fields: graphics, drawing, photography, creative writing, and video. Also serving one of the main objectives of the project is Sinnari House by connecting with youths from different governorates and developing their skills. The project also offered the Arts in the Classroom program for public and experimental school students, between 12 and 16 years of age, to train them in the fields of plastic arts, music, cinema, and theater.

The conference hosted a large number of public figures, including artists, ministry officials, intellectuals, representatives of national and international cultural organizations, as well as several of the participants in the project’s activities.
