Alexandria— Dr. Khaled Azab, Supervisor of the “Memory of Modern Egypt” Project, stated that the Project devoted a section to document the period from 23rd July 1952 (Revolution Day) until 28 September 1970 (the passing away of President Gamal Abdel Nasser), which is known as the Nasserian period including the rule of General Muhammad Naguib.

Safaa Khalifa, who is responsible for the Nasserian section in the Project, mentioned that the Nasserian section is divided into several sub-sections; the first contains texts and written material covering major events starting from July Revolution on 23 July 1952, the abolishment of Monarchy, and declaration of the Egyptian Republic on 18 June 1953; March crisis in 1954; resignation of President Muhammed Naguib on 14 November 1954; dissolution of Muslim Brotherhood in 1954; signing of the British Armies Evacuation Agreement on 18 June 1956; the Nationalization of the Suez Canal on 26 July 1956; the Tripartite Invasion of Egypt on 29 October 1956; the declaration of the Egyptian-Syrian Union (United Arab Republic) in February 1958; signing the Egyptian National Charter in 1962; the Six- Day War in June 196 ; and the death of President Gamal Abdel Nasser on 28 September 1970.

The second sub-section features rare documents published for the first time amounting to 155 documents on President Naguib and 572 on President Abdel Nasser.

Safaa Khalifa added that the third sub-section is devoted to photographs presenting 746 photographs s of President Naguib, in addition to 1000 photographss of the Egyptian Revolution and President Abdel Nasser. The last sub-section is a press archive featuring a collection of published articles, amounting to 700 press releases on the Nasserian period and its different events, as well as 19 video and 77 audio clips.

It is worth mentioning that the “Memory of Modern Egypt” is a definitive digital repository of materials documenting Egypt’s rich modern history, during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through photographs, films, stamps, coins, newspapers, magazines, documents, and historic studies that were drafted specifically for the Project. The Memory is a joint endeavor between the BA International School of Information Science (ISIS) in charge of the technical part, and the BA Special Projects Department that is in charge of the scientific content.
