Alexandria— The BA organizes the Seventh Alexandrina International Book Fair during the period from 19 February to 4 March 2009. This year, Memory of Modern Egypt and the National Translation Center are the Fair’s guests of honor.

This year’s Fair is increasingly gaining popularity among Egyptian, Arab as well as foreign publishers. The BA is allocating a special section to the publications of Memory of Modern Egypt, including Ali Pasha Ibrahim, Akhbar-Al-Youm, the Egyptian Shura Council Catalogue, and the Egyptian’s People’s Council Catalogue among other publications.

The National Translation Center presents a collection of its latest titles including “Once Upon a Time and Other Stories” which is the first book to be translated directly from Bosnian into Arabic by Gamal El-Din Sayed Mohamed, as well as “Guide to the Khedive’s Trip” for the French Auguste Mariette and translated into Arabic by Abbas Abo-Ghazala and which contains pictures, and rare maps for the Suez Canal and its opening ceremony. The Book Fair sells –for the first time– the first Arabic translation of the Cambridge Encyclopedia for Literary Criticism, which is published under the supervision of Marie-Therese Abdel Messieh.

In addition, the different sectors of the Ministry of Culture will participate extensively this year, along with the General Egyptian Book Organization, which will present a pavilion comprising all its publications in Arabic, English and French as well as those of the “Reading for All” Festival.

It is also worth noting that last year’s Alexandrina International Book Fair witnessed outstanding success in relation to the number of participating countries and the number of visitor’s, which reached more than 250,000. It also witnessed a variety of cultural and literary events including seminars on Algerian culture.
