“My book: Digital and Printed” is a pioneering experience launched by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in collaboration with the Internet Archive. “This is a big day, our first visit to a school” Dr. Mohsen Youssef, Advisor to the Director of the Library of Alexandria (BA) said.

The project started on Wednesday, 22 of October, when the “Book Mobile” van visited Al-Salam preparatory boys’ school in Alexandria. The students were divided into groups of ten. Each group was given brief instructions. They started making their own books after the team explained the six-step process: selecting the book from the BA website, printing the pages, cutting the pages in two halves, binding the cut pages together and finally

“My Book” is a real book in the student’s hands. “I will read it and then put it in my class for the rest of my friends to read” Mohammed Ahmed, a 12 year old student said. “This is the fourth book mobile in the world and the first in the Middle East, the fifth will be in Uganda next week” Brewster Kahle, the founder of the Internet Archive said.

This is the beginning of a series of visits that the BA will organize in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The project is expected to reach out to dozens of schools in urban and rural areas.
