Hassan Fathi Architectural Award

Alexandria—The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), in collaboration with the Architecture Committee of the Egyptian Supreme Council for Culture, announced a competition entitled “Hassan Fathi Architectural Award”.

The aim of the competition is to promote contemporary Egyptian architecture, and commemorate Egyptian architect Hassan Fathi, one of the major architects of modern and contemporary Egyptian architecture, and the absolute pioneer of current theories of sustainable development. The theme of this cycle of the competition is “Identity in Contemporary Egyptian Architecture”.

The deadline for submission is Sunday, 4 October 2009. The award ceremony will be held during the International Symposium “Saving the Heritage of Hassan Fathi”, held on 28 October 2009 at the BA in cooperation with “Save the Heritage of Hassan Fathi” Association in Geneva, Switzerland.
