Bahrain Hosts Fifth Meeting of “The Memory of the Arab World” Project

Manama, the Bahraini Capital, hosts the fifth meeting of the “Memory of the Arab World” Project on 23 and 24 March 2010. Representatives of Arab and international entities are to attend.

The Meeting is held under the auspices of Sheikha Mai Al-Khalifa, Minister of Culture and Media of Bahrain, and in cooperation with the Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT). CULTNAT is affiliated to the BA and sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology which finances the “Memory of the Arab World” project, implemented by CULTNAT under the umbrella of the Arab League.

A high profile Egyptian delegation participate in the Meeting: Dr. Fathi Saleh, Director of CULTNAT; Dr. Mohammed Saber Arab, Chairman of the Board of the National Library and Archives of Egypt; Dr. Refaat Hilal, Chairman of the Board Archives of Egypt; and Mrs. Eglal Bahgat, Senior Deputy Director of CULTNAT and Director of the Project.


“The Memory of the Arab World” is a regional Arab project to document Arab heritage and publish it online. It aims at preserving Arab heritage and introducing it to the younger generations, as well as building on what has already been achieved in that regard by different Arab and regional initiatives. Each Arab country would collect and document its tangible and intangible cultural heritage to be eventually published on the “The Memory of the Arab World” e-portal in Arabic and English.
