The BA Alex-Med Center is organizing a book launch for The Story of a Document: Selections of Documents from the Sharia Court of Alexandria during the Ottoman Era by Dr. Ayman Ahmed Mahmoud, Assistant Professor of History at the Faculty of Arts, Suez University, and Chief Researcher at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, on Monday, 9 July 2018 at 7:00 pm in the BACC Delegates Hall.

The idea of this book is based on the publication and editing of a selection of rare documents from the records of the Sharia Court of Alexandria, which shed new light on the city and its inhabitants, Egyptians, Arabs and foreigners. It also chronicles the city of Alexandria during the three centuries of the Ottoman era. The book links between the document and the associated event in a narrative method. The Story of the document is based on the narrative features of a story, the date, time, people, and places presented in the document in relation to the event. Finally, the full text of the document as recorded in the records of the Sharia Court of Alexandria is presented.

This book comes within the framework of the Center’s interest in documenting the human and cultural heritage of an ancient city such as the city of Alexandria, as documentation is one of the important stages in the humanities and historical studies.
