Alexandria and the Mediterranean in History and Memory

Today is the opening session of the international Entre Histoire Et Memoire, Alexandrie Et La Mediterranee conference, hosted by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), 12–13 December 2004. The conference is jointly organized by the Alex Med Center and several other international cultural institutions in Alexandria; the French Cultural Center, Senghor University and the Swedish Institute, with the support of the d’Alembert Fund of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs.


Participants will include Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; H.E. Mr. Louis Blin, the Consul of France in Alexandria; Dr. Traugott Schöfthaler, Executive Director of the Anna Lindh EuroMediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures; Ms. Ingrid Sandström, Deputy Director of the Swedish Institute in Alexandria; Professor Fernand Texier, Director of Senghor University; Dr. Jean-Yves Empereur, Director of the French Center for Alexandrian Studies in Alexandria, Professor Ghislaine Alleaume; Director of Research at the CNRS (French National Research Center) and many more.
