BA Launches Hassan Fathy Award for Architecture 2014

The BA, in collaboration with the Architecture Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture, announced the Hassan Fathy Award for Architecture 2014, which aims to promote contemporary Egyptian architecture, spread cultural awareness of architecture and its importance in society, and encourage and honor Egyptian architects.

This year’s award will address the following topics: urban spaces and landscapes; and private and public educational buildings for universities, faculties, institutes and schools. In addition to this there will be a special award for photography of modern architecture in Egypt. The winner will be awarded a medal that bears the name of the Hassan Fathy Architectural Award, as well as a certificate of merit.

The jury will include representatives of the BA and of the Architecture Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture, as well as a representative of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture – Geneva, a representative of the Society of Egyptian Architects, a representative of the Engineers Association (Division of Architecture), and other architecture professors and specialists from Egypt and abroad.

A seminar about landscaping will be held on 3 December 2014 at the BA and will feature the announcement of the winners. The documents of the submitted projects will be delivered on 6 November 2014.
