The First Arab Book Fair in Alexandria

Alexandria- the BA will participate in the First Arab Book Fair to be held in Qaitbay Citadel, Alexandria from 23 August until 1st September 2006. The book fair will comprise 92 pavilions, in which 80 publishers from more than 12 Arab States will participate. The Arab states participating in the fair are namely Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordon, Morocco, Yemen, Libya, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Egypt. Saudi Arabia will be the guest of honor in the fair.

The fair will include the library’s cultural, scientific, and artistic publications. The BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex-Med) will participate in the library’s pavilion with maps, documents, and old paintings of Alexandria. The center will give an electronic presentation on the Pharos (Alexandrian Lighthouse) and ancient Alexandrian archeological sites.

Dr. Nasser El-Ansary, the Chairman of the General Egyptian Book Organization and the Chairman of the Fair stated that the fair will include several cultural and artistic events, most important of which will be two seminars entitled “the Role of the Culture of Peace in Protecting Societies from Violent Conflicts” and “the Culture of Peace Confronting Fanaticism and Terrorism”. Former Ministers of Culture: Gassan Salama of Lebanon and Yehia Yekhlaf of Palestine, Ali Al-Aidy, Director General of Al-Assad National Library in Damascus, and Soliman Al-Askry (Kuwait), Ali El-Din Helal (Egypt), and Dr. Mostafa El-Fiky will participate in the cultural events.
