Posted on

In collaboration with the European Union, and within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the BA organized a new cultural debate under the theme “Foreign Cultural Institutions in Egypt: Challenges and Achievements”.

The discussion circles were held at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria. Twenty-six officials, diplomats, and public figures participated in the debate including cultural attachés of various foreign embassies in Egypt and directors of several cultural centers and programs.

This meeting is the 10th cultural debate, out of 12, organized under the theme “Discussions on Cultural Policy in Egypt” aiming to initiate the construction of a national cultural policy for Egypt. To enhance the outcome of these debates, the BA implements a strategy which aims to involve  a large number of governmental, independent, and foreign experts in the cultural field.

The sessions covered  the role and achievements of foreign cultural centers in Egypt, the main challenges which impede the progress of cultural investment, and the practical solutions to the aforementioned obstacles and challenges.

The Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program has also held several meetings with both independent cultural institutions and representatives of government officials in order to draft a national cultural policy based on the reality of life in Egypt; a policy that would meet the needs of the public as well as the workers in the cultural field.
