The International Food Fair in Alexandria Announces Morocco Winner of the Best Main Dish

The International Food Fair “Gastronomy in Alexandria: A Cosmopolitan Flavor in the Mediterranean” came to a close on Saturday, 24 May 2008, during which Morocco won the first prize in the main dish competition. While, Armenia won the second prize and Greece won the third prize, as well as the first prize in the appetizer competition, in which Spain won the second and the third prizes. Sweden won the first prize in the dessert competition.
The dishes were assessed by a Judging Panel: Eric Deblonde, Executive Chef, Four Seasons, Alexandria; Nicola Bellomo, Counselor, Delegation of the European Commission to Egypt; Nermine Hanno, Executive Chef and F&B Manager, Al Manahil Restaurant, Riyadh; and Bahar Zaklama, Gastronomy Expert, Chain of Rotisseur, Alexandria.
HE Klaus Ebermann, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission to Egypt, participated in the Fair held in Antoniadis gardens in Alexandria. The participants presented a sample of their dishes categorized by their countries. The best pavilions were the Armenian; Egyptian; Greek; Lebanese; Moroccan; Palestinian; Spanish; Swedish; and Turkish.
Luxurious Alexandrian hotels and restaurants participated in the Fair, and international chefs presented cook recipes for the most famous Italian and French cuisine, especially Italian Pasta and French desserts. The BA gave out a memorial pyramid for the participating hotels namely: Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano, Sheraton Montazah, and Renaissance Alexandria Hotel.
The Fair included folkloric performances by a Palestinian band and an Egyptian Nubian group. The Greek and Armenian communities in Alexandria also presented a series of performances and dances including the famous "Zorba" dance.
This major weekend of cultural exchange is the highlight of a month of cultural activities carried out by the European Commission Delegation to Egypt, the BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Centre and the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, which has been carried out in the framework of 2008, nominated as the Euro-Mediterranean Year of Dialogue between Cultures by the Foreign Ministers of the Euro-Med Partnership.
