Alexandria—The Memory of Modern Egypt Website has recently won Al-Kindi Informatics Award as the best cultural website in Arabic. Mr. Mahmoud Ezzat, BA Special Projects Department, and Mr. Ahmed Samir, BA Information and Communication Technology Department (ICT), received the award during the ceremony held by the Syrian Computer Society at the Rida Saeed Conference Center at Damascus University, and attended by the Syrian Vice President for Cultural Affairs Dr. Najah Al-Attar.

It is worth mentioning that the Project is an endeavor by a group of young men and women from the BA Special Projects and ICT Departments, under the supervision of Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Dr. Khaled Azab, Dr. Magdi Nagui and Dr. Noha Adly. The project was inaugurated last October in a ceremony held at the Cairo Opera House, and attended by HE Suzanne Mubarak, Chair of the BA Board of Trustees.

Memory of Modern Egypt is a definitive digital repository of materials documenting Egypt’s rich modern history during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through photographs, films, stamps, coins, newspapers, magazines, documents, and historical studies that were drafted specifically for the Project.
