The Egyptian team that participated in the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF)—which was held in Los Angeles (LA), California, USA from 13 to 18 May 2017—has won the Fourth Award in the Engineering Mechanics category.

The winning students from Egypt are Dina Ahmed Abo el Magd and Seifeldin Mohamed Abdel Moneim from STEM Suez School for Petrochemicals, who won for their project: Algae Energy.

The BA would like to thank the PSC exhibition team, the Ministry of Education, Intel, IT Blocks, the U.S. Consulate General in Alexandria, and Misr el Kheir Foundation.

In March 2017, the BA announced the 10 Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair (Intel BASEF) projects that qualified to participate in Intel ISEF. The international fair provides contestants the opportunity to meet scientists from all over the world, including Nobel Prize winners. Intel ISEF, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, brings together over 1,500 student from all over the world to share their ideas and showcase cutting-edge science projects.

It is also worth mentioning that Intel BASEF aims to help 12–18 year old youths develop 21st century skills through focusing on knowledge and research, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork. The students’ projects are assessed by university professors, specialized scientists and engineers, as well as professional volunteers in the industry. Grand prizes are determined by using a scale of 100 points that are awarded for innovation and scientific thinking, precision, skills, and clarity. The jury follows international standards to assess all submitted projects.
