A celebration is being organized by the Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired in the form of a carnival which will include several segments that aim to stimulate the general public to a better understanding of blindness and visual impairment and to integrate the blind into society and educate the general public on including individuals with visual impairments in their everyday activities. This is in addition to educating people on the use of the cane as a mobility tool and advocating for the rights of visually impaired pedestrians.
The carnival will begin with an announcement of the day’s events on the stairs leading up to the BA’s Plaza. This will be followed by a show with white canes that will be performed by a group of visually impaired children.
Many school students, both blind and seeing, will participate in the event and a group of children and youth will be given awards for their achievements in certain fields during 2014.
