Since 1980, White Cane Safety Day is celebrated on the 15th of October of each year. The idea of the celebration was initiated by the World Blind Union. It is an organization that represents 180,000,000 blind and weak-sighted people from 600 different organizations in158 countries. The Union organizes and coordinates its activities in cooperation with the United Nations organizations.
